Centre opens new teen hangout

Several area teens helped to mark the grand opening of the new teen center at The New Richmond Area Centre on Friday, Oct. 1. Also pictured are RCU representatives Liz Moe, Connie Schroeder, Colleen Leuschner and Scott Jones. RCU has donated funds to help operate the new teen center.

On Friday, Oct. 1, The Centre opened the brand new teen center, called The Den.

Through a partnership with Royal Credit Union, The Den will be open every day after school from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. under the direction of new Teen Director Alyssa Jerlow.

Jerlow, a New Richmond native, said she is excited about the opportunities to provide programming for teens in the community.

Each day will have a different slate of events and activities for kids to participate in. Jerlow's goal is to provide activities for a wide variety of kids and will have activities focus on leadership development.

The Den has tables and booths for kids to hang out with their friends, and video game consoles including Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 that will have games available for the teens to use.

Saturdays will include teen nights for grades 6 and 7 as well as tween nights for grades 4 and 5.

The Den is available free for Centre members or just $3 per day for kids age 10 and older. A Centre membership for teens is just $15 per month.
