NR park changes proposed

The New Richmond Park Board is recommending several changes to its current policies.

The board has forwarded a proposal to the City Council suggesting that park hours be changed starting next year.

Currently the city's parks are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Parks and Recreation Director Joe Kerlin said some residents expressed a desire to have parks open later, especially in the summer when the sun stays out longer.

In response, park officials are asking that hours be extended to 10 p.m. for local parks.

The park board is recommending to the council that alcohol be allowed at all park shelters as long as there is a shelter rental fee.

"The use of alcohol would have to remain in the shelter area only, other than Mary Park and Hatfield," Kerlin explained.

The park hours and alcohol policy changes will be forwarded to the City Council for an ordinace change in the coming months, Kerlin said.
