Volunteers help make Christmas more merry for families in need

The Grace Place/Salvation Army annual Christmas party was Sunday, Dec. 19. at the Somerset Middle School.

More than 305 families in need attended the party -- a total of 1,280 individuals.

According to Lori Scheder, shelter manager for Grace Place, more than 100 volunteers worked the party and 60 volunteers helped with preparations.

Attendees received a bag of wrapped presents, a gift card to Family Fresh Market and a frozen turkey.

During the party, there were card-making stations, cookie decorating, holiday stories, face painting and pictures with Santa.

About 11 hair stylists from Fantastic Sam's volunteered their time to cut hair, and the Somerset Boy Scout troop #144 volunteered to carry out the frozen turkeys and gift bags to attendees' vehicles.
