Somerset Amphitheater announces summer concert lineup

It's official: there will be a concert at the Somerset Amphitheater Music & Event Center this summer.

The weekend of August 18-19 will see more than 30 bands descend on Somerset, in the first annual SoundTown Music and Camping Festival.

"It's been a busy few months trying to balance the planning of the festival with the start of all the improvements at the concert site," said Matt Mithun, owner of the Somerset Amphitheater. "But we'll be ready to roll this August, and next year we'll have more time to plan a full summer schedule of events."

Since Mithun purchased the concert venue last year, he has made improvements to the grounds.

There is a new permanent stage, additional campsites, four bathroom/shower buildings, a convenience store and more permanent seating.

Unlike the past Country Splash concerts, this festival promises to showcase more rock groups. Some of the featured acts are The Flaming Lips, Slick Rick, Solid Gold, DeVotchKa Phantom Tails, Doug E. Fresh and Jack Klatt & The Cat Singers.

Ticket prices start at $45, with camping starting at $35. For more ticket information, go to the Somerset Amphitheater website.

Mithun said they will be working on the staffing for the festival over the next few weeks.

"We can't tell you how excited we are to re-open the Somerset Amphitheater and share the improved site with music fans -- both those who have been coming for years and those who will be first-time visitors," he said.
