Holstein Club plans public gathering

Dairy enthusiasts and the general public are invited to attend the Pierce-Pepin Holstein Club's Twilight meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Huppert Brothers Inc., of River Falls.

Visitors will have the opportunity to visit a family farm, tour their operation and participate in a dairy judging contest. A roast beef lunch will be served, along with dairy refreshments.

A semen auction featuring some of the breed's top bulls, a dairy speaker, and door prizes will round out the evening.

Huppert Brothers Inc. was named a Wisconsin Century farm in 2000. In 2002 they hosted St. Croix County's Farm City Days and were also named St. Croix County Conservation Farm of the year.

"Milk quality is a top priority and we receive milk quality awards each year from Hasting Creamery. We want to make sure that we are producing a quality product for consumers," stated Jason Kjos.

The families' involvement with Registered Holsteins started with a calf that Kjos bought at the state convention sale held in River Falls in 2004. L-Maples Kite Sugar-Red, EX-91, was a red spring calf that was the start of many milestones that Jason and his family have had the opportunity to experience.

Sugar began her show career at the Pierce County Fair where she took home Supreme Champion honors in 2006. After winning at the county fair, Sugar was exhibited at the Minnesota State Fair where she was Reserve Intermediate Champion of the Red and White Show. She's also been to World Dairy Expo three times, placing eighth as a Junior 3 Year Old in 2007.

Huppert Brothers Inc. has a rolling herd average of 25,752 pounds of milk and a BAAof 106.9. Jason says their breeding philosophy is based on type and longevity, something he learned from his father-in-law who has always emphasized the importance of good type animals.

They said they are looking forward to hosting the Pierce-Pepin Holstein Club Twilight meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. and invite Holstein breeders, friends and neighbors to come visit the herd. Huppert Brothers Inc. is located just north of River Falls off of Highway 35, taking County Road U. Signs will be visible.
