Holiday light recycling offered across St. Croix County

Broken or unwanted holiday lights can be recycled during the holiday season through the end of January at several locations in St. Croix County. Strands of lights are completely dismantled and recycled though a program by the Recycling Association of Minnesota.

For many people the holidays are incomplete without festive strands of lights.

But what can be done with those colorful lights once they stop working? Or what if you've bought new lights and don't need your old ones?

The St. Croix County Recycling Program, in coordination with the Recycling Association of Minnesota (RAM), brings you Recycle Your Holidays, a one-of-a-kind holiday light recycling program. Drop off unwanted light strings at any of the 450+ participating locations, including seven locations in St. Croix County, during the holiday season through the end of January.

There are several holiday light drop off locations in St. Croix County:

Gregerson Ace Hardware, 880 Cedar St.

The Purple Tree, 516 Second St., Suite 101

New Richmond:

Doyle's Ace Hardware, 560 Deere Drive

New Richmond Utilities, 156 E. First St.

River Falls:

River Falls Ace Hardware, 1163 N. Main St.

River Falls City Hall, 222 Lewis St.

River Falls High School, 818 Cemetery Road

RAM's holiday light recycling program employs more than 200 individuals with disabilities at vocational centers throughout the state of Minnesota. Every part of the light strand is dismantled by vocational center clients and properly recycled. The program is promoted in partnership with WCCO, Xcel Energy, Ace Hardware stores, and CERTS (Clean Energy Resource Teams).
