Holiday lighting winners announced

Warren and Wendi Smallidge's lighting display was awarded first place in the annual Kiwanis Club Christmas Lighting Contest.

Eleven Kiwanis Club members took to the streets of New Richmond on Wednesday, Dec. 12, looking for the best Christmas lights in town.

The verdict? Warren and Wendi Smallidge have the best display of 2012.

The Smallidges, who live at 315 Greaton Road, will be awarded a $75 New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce gift certificate as a prize.

Other displays awarded prizes include:

• Second place ($50 gift card): Bradley and Denise Renspe, 535 Grand Ave.

• Third place ($25 gift card): Earl and Mary Andersen, 1463 Woodduck Lane.

• Fourth, fifth and sixth place ($15 gift cards): 1321 Bilmar Ave., 948 Jefferson Road, and 355 N. Second St.

The annual lighting contest is designed to encourage more lighting of homes to beautify the city during the holiday season.

Judging is done by considering the amount of work needed to make an attractive display, originality, creative message and keeping in the Christmas spirit.

Winners from last year, unless the display is changed, were not eligible to win and only houses within New Richmond's city limit were eligible for judging.
