Hesselink elected to FSA committee
The St. Croix County Farm Service Agency presented Richard Hesselink with his Certificate of Election to the St. Croix County Committee at its quarterly meeting.
The St. Croix COC consists of three elected county agricultural producers: Edward Sontag from Somerset, Susan Gausman from Baldwin and Richard Hesselink from Deer Park.
The COC is vital in making decisions concerning the local administration of federal farm programs.
Committee members apply their knowledge and judgment to make decisions on disaster and conservation payments, establishment of yields, producer appeals, employing FSA county executive directors and other local issues.
"Mr. Hesselink has been farming for over 35 years and is a great addition to the COC," said Bob Forrest, FSA county executive director. "Couple that with serving as chair of the Stanton Town Board for 22 years, as well as working at the St. Croix County Highway Department for 25 years. Mr. Hesselink brings a wealth of knowledge and experience both in agriculture and local government policy."
The next COC meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m., July 3, at the FSA office in Baldwin and is open to the public.
