Bloomer teen dies in rollover

A single-vehicle rollover on Thursday, July 4, has led to another fatality on western Wisconsin roadways.

According to a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Shayla Story, 17, of Bloomer was traveling southbound on State Highway 40 and negotiating a curve when the car she was driving drifted onto the roadway shoulder. Officials say she brought the vehicle back on the roadway but then rolled over. The accident occurred around 10:41 a.m. near Bloomer.

Story was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the car.

She was transported by ambulance to Bloomer Memorial Medical Center. She was then flown from there by helicopter and she passed away while in flight to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol. 

Assisting agencies included Chippewa Co. Sheriff’s Department, Bloomer Police Department, Bloomer Fire Department, and Mayo 1 Helicopter.
