One injured following high-speed chase
On Sunday, July 7, at approximately 7 p.m., a Wisconsin State Trooper clocked the speed of a red Pontiac G-6 driven by a 20-year-old female from Eau Claire at 78 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 37 near Hemlock Rd. in the Town of Brunswick, Eau Claire Co.
The trooper turned around to stop the vehicle for the speed violation and while attempting to catch up, observed the vehicle turn west on Nelson Rd. The vehicle then allegedly proceeded west on Nelson Rd. at a high rate of speed.
According to a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol, the trooper continued in an attempt to catch up to the vehicle with his lights and siren activated. The vehicle was continuing west on Nelson Road at a high rate of speed and a considerable distance in front of the trooper. Due to the distance the vehicle was in front of the trooper, he periodically lost sight of the vehicle.
The Trooper found the vehicle had rolled over and crashed on Nelson Road west of CTH Z. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver was
airlifted to Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire with unknown injuries.
According to the State Patrol, speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The Eau Claire County Sheriffs Department is handling the crash investigation. The name of the driver is being withheld at this time.
Assisting agencies included Eau Claire Co. Sheriff’s Dept, Town of Brunswick Fire Dept., and Mayo 1 Helicopter.
