River Falls man dies in Wednesday morning crash

A 66-year-old River Falls man died in a two-car accident at the intersection of County Road G and County Road T  near New Richmond Wednesday morning.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene in Erin Prairie Township at 6:25 a.m. July 31.

According to a press release from the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office, William R. Eubank of River Falls was driving a 1999 Honda Odyssey northbound on County Road T when he stopped at the intersection with County Road G at Erin Corners.

According to witnesses, Eubank proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a 1997 Ford Ranger, driven by Brian C. Swanepoel, 36, from New Richmond. Weather conditions appeared to be a factor in the crash, according to sheriff's deputies, as it was very foggy when they arrived at the scene.

Both vehicles came to rest on the northeast side of the intersection, with the Honda Odyssey coming to rest on its roof and the truck coming to rest on its side. Eubank was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner's Office.

Swanepoel was transported to Westfields Hospital in New Richmond. There is no report yet on the extent of Swanepoel's injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the press release. Assisting at the scene were the New Richmond Fire and Rescue Department and New Richmond EMS.

The fatality was the seventh accident-related death of 2013 in St. Croix County. The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.
