Burnett County man dies in fiery crash
A 37-year-old Grantsburg man died in a single-vehicle accident outside Danbury early Sunday morning.
The victim was identified Monday morning as Michael L. Dahlberg, 37. The accident apparently occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
At 8:25 a.m. Sunday the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to single vehicle crash on Hwy. 77 about five miles west of Danbury. The crashed vehicle was located over 200 yards north of the highway in a heavily wooded area, making the van/SUV difficult to locate.
The initial investigation indicates the vehicle was eastbound on Hwy. 77, went off the right side of the road and re-entered Hwy. 77, rolling over multiple times. The vehicle landed on its wheels, then continued to the north side of the road into the woods. After coming rest, the vehicle started on fire and completely burned. The driver was located, deceased, a short distance from the vehicle.
Assisting agencies included Burnett County deputies, Department of Natural Resources workers, Danbury EMS and Danbury firefighters.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
