A Deer Park motorcyclist died from his injuries two weeks after he was involved in a crash that killed his wife.
According to a press release from the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office, Robert Kastens, 88, died at Regions Hospital on Saturday, June 7, due to complications resulting from injuries he sustained as a result of the May 24 crash that killed his passenger, Charlene Kastens, 79.
A Deer Park woman was killed in a motorcycle crash in the Town of Erin Prairie on Saturday afternoon.
Charlene Kastens, 79, of Deer Park, was a passenger on a 2012 Honda Trike GL 1800 driven by Robert Kastens, 88, of Deer Park, at just before 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, according to a press release issued Monday by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office. The bike was headed south on Highway 63 and entered the south ditch at the 180th Avenue intersection, where both Robert and Charlene were thrown from the bike. Both were wearing helmets.
Both Charlene and Robert were taken via ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., according to the release. Charlene died at the hospital. Robert suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Among the agencies assisting St. Croix County Sheriff's deputies at the crash scene were New Richmond Fire & Rescue, New Richmond Area Ambulance Service, Deer Park Area Fire Department, Deer Park First Responders and the Clear Lake Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
