A serious crash in the Town of Stanton prompted authorities to shut down a portion of Highway 64 east of New Richmond for more than 30 minutes on Wednesday morning.

Just before 11 a.m., initial reports came in of a head-on crash on Highway 64 near 180th Street.

By 11:09, the highway was shut down between County Road T and 170th Street with personnel from New Richmong Fire & Rescue, New Richmond Area Ambulance Service and the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office at the scene.

Vehicles involved were a silver SUV that was headed east and a dark blue minivan that was headed west. Each vehicle had just one occupant, at least one driver required extrication and both were initially transported to Westfields Hospital in New Richmond, one with serious injuries, according to St. Croix County Chief Deputy Scott Knudson.

Knudson said at the scene that it appeared one of the vehicles crossed the center line, but didn't indicate which. The crash remains under investigation.

The crash site was cleared and the highway was reopened to traffic by 11:45 a.m.
