A 54-year-old New Richmond woman lost her life Friday, April 3, in a crash at the same curve on County Road A where a 25-year-old New Richmond woman crashed and died in 2011.

Authorities on Tuesday morning released the identity of Faye E. McCarty as the victim of Friday’s fatal crash. According to a St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office press release, the crash occurred on County Road A nearly a mile south of New Richmond city limits in the Town of Richmond.

According to the press release, “Initial investigation indicates a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina, traveling south on CTH A failed to negotiate a curve. The car left the roadway, went into the west ditch, and struck a tree. The car then started on fire with the driver still inside.”

The fire kept first responders from extricating the woman from the car, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.

Identification was initially withheld until the woman’s body could be transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office in Minnesota for positive identification.

Friday’s crash, which was the sixth traffic fatality on St. Croix County roads this year, remains under investigation.

A memorial for Alicia Bader sits just a few feet away from the tree charred from last week’s fire. Bader was killed on Thanksgiving Day in 2011. According to reports from the Sheriff’s Office in 2011, Bader also lost control while trying to negotiate the same curve, went into the ditch and struck the same tree.
