Woodville boy injured after car strikes bike

A 12-year-old Woodville boy was hospitalized Saturday after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in the Town of Baldwin.

According to a St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office news release, Troy D. Ellsworth was headed west on County Road E at 9:46 a.m. Saturday when he was struck from behind by a four-door Infiniti I30 driven by Robert G. Whitman, 47, of Baldwin.

The release states the impact from the crash sent Ellsworth through the car’s windshield.

Ellsworth was first taken to Baldwin Hospital by Baldwin EMS and later transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

From there, Ellsworth was taken to Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. A spokesman from Gillette confirmed Ellsworth was being cared for there on Monday morning, but did not have his condition.

The release said Whitman -- who was not injured in the crash -- immediately got out of his car to help Ellsworth.

The crash remains under investigation.
