Update: New Richmond man critical after crash

A New Richmond man seriously injured in a Polk County crash that claimed two lives remained hospitalized on Monday.

James T. Leverty, 58, was taken to Regions Hospital after a crash that occurred at 3 p.m. June 19 at 125th Avenue and Highway 63 in the town of Beaver. He was listed in critical condition Monday morning by Regions staff.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, Leverty was driving a 2008 Ford Taurus SUV that was headed north on Highway 63 when it was struck by an Oldsmobile Alero driven by Richard Leroy Reindahl, 58, Clayton.

Reindahl died at the scene. A passenger in his vehicle, Michael Stephen Austin, 44, Clayton, died later at Regions Hospital. A third occupant, Nicole Marie Lundstrom, 35, Amery, was taken to Regions for her injuries -- the extent of which were not disclosed.

The sheriff’s department said the crash was caused when Reindahl’s car failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and drove directly into Highway 63 traffic.
