UPDATE: Identity of victim in Wednesday's collision released
Eugene H. Sempf, 73, was the man who died Wednesday morning after a dump truck struck his pickup truck in the town of Glenwood.
Sempf apparently failed to stop or pulled from a stop sign on 130th Avenue into the path of the larger truck traveling on CTH D, southwest of Glenwood City.
The 2001 dump truck owned by Woodville-based Albrightson Trucking was southbound on County Road D when Sempf's 2000 Dodge Dakota headed west, pulled into its path.
The driver of the dump truck, 30-year-old Menomonie resident Craig G. Groepper, was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt.The St. Croix County Sheriff's Dept. said Sempf was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The fatal crash -- the 10th death this year on St. Croix County roads -- remains under investigation by the sheriff’s and medical examiner’s offices.
State Patrol truck inspectors were also at the scene Wednesday.
Funeral arrangements for Mr. Sempf are pending with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.
