Former Elmwood bar owner injured in semi crash
The man who sold his popular Elmwood bar last year was injured in a semi-trailer crash Thursday in rural Pierce County.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said 64-year-old Richard Tiffany was taken to Mayo Health System-Eau Claire for injuries sustained in a crash at 10:44 a.m. Nov. 30 near 190th Street and 370th Avenue in the town of Union.
Tiffany owned Big Dick’s Bar in Elmwood until 2016, when it was reopened as Kern’s Kurbside Bar & Grill. According to a Facebook post on Kern’s Kurbside page, Tiffany is recovering from surgery.
Deputies arrived on the scene to find a 2002 Freightliner semi lying on its passenger side with liquid manure spilled from its trailer. Deputies suspected Tiffany “failed to successfully negotiate the curve” in a stretch on 190th Street, leading to the crash. A “significant amount” of the manure load was lost in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Department of Natural Resources, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Ellsworth ambulance, the Plum City-Maiden Rock-Stockholm ambulance service and the Plum City fire Department. The crash remains under investigation.
