UPDATE: Six injured in two-vehicle crash in Polk County

A crash that injured six people occurred on southbound Wisconsin 35 near the intersection of 330th Avenue in Polk County near Frederic at 5:25 p.m. on Sunday Jan. 6.

A Chevrolet van reportedly became disabled and the driver coasted to a stop in the right hand passing lane on Highway 35. The driver of the van left the scene and was attempting to obtain help.

The van was still occuppied by his wife, Tara Lea Swanson, 36, Centuria, three minor daughters (Kiarra Swanson, 13, Mercedes Swanson, 16, and Zoe Swanson, 11) and a minor family friend (Heather Gillitzer, 17). It was at this time a Ford pickup truck, traveling southbound in the passing lane, collided with the rear of the van.

The front of the truck entered the passenger compartment at the rear of the van causing serious injury to the occupants. The five occupants of the van and a passenger in the truck (Drew Zobisch, 28, Luck) were transported to the St. Croix Falls Hospital for injuries.

The driver of the truck, Abel Boone Lipoff, 36, Luck, that struck the van, was arrested for allegedly operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated by the Polk County Sheriff's Department.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating and reconstructing the crash. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
