UPDATE: Semi driver dies in I-94 crash; names released
A 45-year-old Stacy, Minn., man is dead and a 48-year-old Illinois man is injured following a two-vehicle crash along I-94 at around 12:55 a.m. Thursday, May 2.
The crash, at mile marker 35, was located six miles west of Menomonie. Due to the location of the accident, an alternate route was implemented sending eastbound traffic north on Hwy. 128, east on Hwy 12 to the city of Menomonie where they returned to I-94.
The driver of a 1998 Volvo, John Philippi, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dunn County Medical Examiner. Philippi drove for Logistics Services Inc. out of Eagan, Minn.
The driver of the second rig, Robert Denton, 48, who was driving a 2006 International, was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the Patrol said. He is from Matton, Ill., a community of about 20,000 people, some 150 miles northeast of St. Louis, Mo.
Assisting the State Patrol with the accident and subsequent road closure were Woodville police, St. Croix County sheriff's deputies and both Dunn and St. Croix County highway departments.
