Neil Bakke and Brent Schulze of Monarch Paving Company were presented with a Patriot Award by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve representative Mike Kastens in recognition of extraordinary support of one of their employees serving in the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

The presentation took place at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 9, at Monarch Paving Company, 1432 County Road G, New Richmond.

"Neil Bakke and Brent Schulze were nominated for this prestigious national award by their employee Caleb Pocernich, who is a member of the 950th Engineer Company of the Wisconsin Army National Guard. The Patriot Award is only presented to employers who not only hire Guard and Reserve members, but demonstrate superior support to the military employee and his/her family.

"The National Guard and Reserve forces are the cornerstone of our national defense. Neil Bakke and Brent Schulze have provided outstanding support and cooperation and have exhibited a patriotic spirit which is reflected in the significance of being a recipient of the Patriot Award," said Mike Williams, chairman of the Wisconsin Committee for ESGR.

"Both Brent and I are humbled to receive this award. We at Monarch Paving Company really want to hire as many service members as possible," Bakke said. "We see the value of hiring service members because of their dedication to their jobs both on the civilian and military side."
