Starr donates $267 to SCC Elementary
Students at Starr Elementary donated $267 to St. Croix Central Elementary School after an arson fire forced school officials to close the building and move the students to "Panther Camp" at Rolling Ridges Girl Scout Camp.
A coin drive was organized by Rachel Minch, kindergarten teacher at Starr Elementary.
Andy Hoeppner, Starr Elementary principal, agreed to dress as a farmer if the students could collect $150. He told the kids he would kiss a farm animal if they were able to raise $200 and he'd kiss two farm animals if they could reach $250. They did just that.
A school-wide assembly was conducted Wednesday, June 5, and Hoeppner fulfilled his promise by kissing Katie, a horse owned by the Raddatz family, and Walter, a sunburnt calf, also owned by the Raddatzs.
To sweeten the deal, Hoeppner threw in an extra $120 for St. Croix Central Elementary when Tom Cleveland and six other teachers also offered to kiss Walter.
