Marx wins middle school spelling bee

It took about an hour to crown a Spelling Bee winner out of the 27 students who competed in the event on Feb. 5, at the New Richmond Middle School.

Maggie Marx, sixth-grade, was the first place winner and moves on to compete again at the regional spelling bee.

Katey Eickhoff, sixth-grade, finished in second place, fol­lowed by Nathan Zander and Cole Birch, eighth-grade, who tied for third place.

Marx won by spelling the word “prognosticate” correct­ly.

Other participants in the Spelling Bee included: Collin Campbell, Burke Delaney, Dave Miller, Hannah Otto, Kenzie Tervo, Melissa Von Walter, Audrey Ahlness, Julia Belmont, Megan Bennig, Zach Cunningham, Declan Gubrud, Abby Hammer, Dylan Larkin, Cole Spencer, Nadia Fall, Kerrigan Storie, Ruslana Gutsol, John Haasch, Caitlyn Kizer, Lexi Miller, Jack Pearson and Will Stuedeman.

The Regional Spelling Bee will take place on Feb. 19, at Turtle Lake.
