Dates chosen for make up days in Somerset

After seeking preliminary Board of Education approval, the Somerset School District administration has decided how to make up the most recent day lost to inclement weather on Friday, Feb. 21.

District administrator Randy Rosburg announced in a letter to parents that students will attend school for full days on March 7 and April 4, which had been scheduled as early release days.

“We understand that family plans may already be in place for March 7, and understand if students may be absent for the afternoon,” Rosburg said.

March 7 is the Friday before spring break, which is March 10-14.

At the February Board of Education meeting, it was decided to hold classes Friday June 6 and Monday June 9 at the middle and high schools. This allows the district to make up the two days lost to inclement weather earlier this year.

This also permits the middle and high schools to make up the necessary number of instructional hours required by the Department of Public Instruction. The elementary school students will have class June 6 in order to meet the DPI’s 175-day requirement.

“Please note that if we have additional inclement weather days this year, the calendar may be adjusted again,” Rosburg said.
