April 21 slated as makeup day for NR schools

At its March 4 school board work session, the New Richmond School District Board of Education decided to schedule Monday, April 21, as a makeup day for the district, according to District Administrator Jeff Moberg.

“Given that we are still in March, there is a high possibility of snow or bad weather since March tends to see a lot more precipitation,” Moberg said. “That snow might endup leading to another day that we might have to make up, so we really don’t want to think about adding days to the end of the school year until we have to.”

April 21 was previously set as part of the district’s Easter Break, which included days off on Friday, April 18, as well as the following Monday. The district will still have off the Friday before Easter and that vacation day is most likely safe from being made into another makeup day if school should be canceled again, Moberg said.

“If we see another day of school canceled we will start looking at the end of the year and possibly adding days in June,” Moberg said. “Personally, I think that the cold is over for this year, but March is usually a lot snowier than other months and it tends to be heavy wet snow too, which could cause problems. But hopefully we won’t have to deal with that.”

An email sent out by Moberg to parents, teachers and employees of the school district by the AlertNow system on Thursday, March 6, stated that “The school understands that some families may have already made arrangements and would like to let families know that parents have the right to excuse students from school for family trips/travel/visits.”

In other school district news, a meeting regarding the school district’s community reading program will be held in the high school large forum room at 6 p.m. on March 18. The meeting is for those interested in volunteering their time to help with the program, specifically to volunteer for morning reading sessions with children of the community and school district. Anyone who is interested in volunteering but unable to attend the meeting can email Terri Schmit at .
