At a special meeting Thursday night, the St. Croix Central School District Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Pete Nusbaum as its next elementary school principal.

Nusbaum is a familiar face in the St. Croix Central School District. He, his wife and their three children live in Roberts. According to a Pierce County Herald article from last July, Nusbaum graduated from Minnesota State University - Mankato in 1989 and was immediately hired as a high school business education teacher at SCC. For the next 17 years, Nusbaum also coached wrestling, girls softball and football. He served as principal of St. Croix Falls High School for seven years.

Nusbaum has served as principal at Ellsworth Middle School since July 2013. He is a native of Waterville, Minn., a community with a population of about 1,700.

According to the article, Nusbaum is the son of the late Shirley and John (they operated a meat market), and he was in a family of eight. Most of his siblings are still in the vicinity of his home community; one brother butchers in a different market within four-to-five miles of his parent’s former business place.

Nusbaum will replace Steve Sanders who has been serving as interim principal since Heidi Weisert-Peatow abruptly resigned from the principal position in January.
