SHS concert choir receives high honor from WCDA
The Somerset High School Concert Choir had the honor of performing at the Wisconsin Choral Director's Association Convention in Appleton on Friday, Jan. 9.
According to choral director Scott Perau, only a handful of choirs are selected to perform at the convention.
“I submitted a recording to audition for performance at the convention back in June,” Perau said. The selected choirs range from elementary through high school choirs, collegiate choirs and community choirs of all different types and sizes. This year, we were one of seven choirs that were selected for performance at the convention. It is a very high honor to be chosen for performance at a convention of this kind.”
Somerset choral students performed on Friday, Jan. 9 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton. Perau said their performance was very well received. Afterward they went out for pizza and bowling, which was paid for by donations collected at recent concerts. They also watched a performance by the headliner choir, “The Voice of Chicago,” which is the top auditioned ensemble of the Chicago Children's Choir organization, an organization that involves nearly 4,000 children ages elementary through high school in Chicago.
“Thanks to a very generous donation by the Somerset Lions Club, the students were able to attend this concert free of charge,” Perau said. The donation totalled $600.
