Rotary Club of New Richmond sponsoring Brazilian exchange student
Rotary Club of New Richmond is accepting applications for host families for the upcoming 2016-17 school year. The Rotary Club is sponsoring a female student from Brazil who will be a senior in the New Richmond School District. The Rotary exchange student will spend approximately three and a half months with each of three host families.
“Hosting a Rotary exchange student is a rewarding and educational experience for the host family,” Bridget Kelley, New Richmond Rotary Youth Exchange Officer, said. “It becomes extra special for the student if she is able to live with a family who has a student close in age, but it is not necessary. Supporting the student in joining organizations within the school district and community will provide a well-rounded experience and perspective for life in Wisconsin and the United States.”
Kelley said becoming a Rotary exchange student is an intensive process and only the “elite” of applicants are selected. This year’s student is fluent in English and also enjoys horseback riding, music, outdoor activities, movies and spending time with friends.
New Richmond area residents interested in possibly becoming a host family can contact Kelley to complete an application. To allow the student a variety of experiences, the student will spend about three and a half months with each family, beginning in mid-August 2016.
Kelley may be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or 715-246-9595.
Rotary Club of New Richmond annually sponsors exchange students, which allows both the students and the
New Richmond community the opportunity to interact with high-caliber students from a variety of countries, such as Germany, Brazil, Chile, India and Indonesia.
Rotary International has an extensive screening and selection process that foreign students must participate in. Only those students who demonstrate a high degree of social, emotional and academic maturity are accepted into the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.
This fall, students at New Richmond High School will be offered the opportunity to become an outbound exchange student. More information is online at www.NorthStarYouthExchange.com, District 5960.
