SMS February Students of the Month announced

Somerset Middle School recognizes the February Students of the Month for their strong displays of character. Students selected for February exemplify the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Fifth grade

Garrett Mork has shown excellent progress in the fifth-grade classroom, both academically and behaviorally. He consistently works hard to complete his assignments and focuses during classroom instruction. Garrett also met his AR goal for second trimester.

Rachel Hoyt is a person that her teachers, classmates and friends can depend on to treat others fairly. She is always willing to listen and accept the ideas of others. Rachel sets a great example for her peers. She is responsible in her behavior and school work. She can be counted on to do the right thing. She tries hard, is there for others, and makes our world a better place.

Parker Reese consistently demonstrates the qualities needed to be a highly successful student. Parker is a positive role model and leader among his peers. He can always be counted on to do the right thing. Parker cares for our school and everyone in this building. He is a phenomenal student, and an asset to Somerset Middle School.

Sixth grade

Jaden Kohler is a very helpful and friendly personality. He is a dedicated and hardworking student. We teach students that to have good character traits, you would do the right thing even when nobody's watching. Jaden does this all the time. He is a great kid. Jaden is also a very honest student who knows right from wrong. He shows he is responsible by doing his school work to the best of his ability. He is dedicated to making the right choices about behavior and attitude.

Adi Sindt is a great kid with a lot of energy. She is willing to ask questions for understanding. She likes to be a leader during group work, and her peers follow her lead. She works hard on her labs to learn the material. She is also willing to help others when she has completed a lab or assignment. She is dedicated to making the right choices about behavior and attitude. Adi is a positive role model.

Roni Fagan works very hard in her classes. Roni has a very quiet and friendly disposition that makes it fun to be around her. This character trait helps her get along well in her group during group work. She works very hard on her labs and studies hard for tests. She will do extra to make sure things are done right. She is dedicated to making the right choices about behavior and attitude.

Seventh grade

Leslie Sanchez is a hardworking student who always strives to do her best. Leslie always has a smile on her face and brightens the hallways and classrooms of SMS. She is willing to help her classmates and teachers each day. Leslie is respectful, responsible and a wonderful citizen of SMS.

Landon Wilson is a quiet and respectful student who enjoys reading. In class, he is always on-task and doing what is asked of him. Landon is kind to his peers and an excellent partner to have for a group project. He comes to class prepared and constantly shows how responsible he can be.

Isa Fagan is the epitome of responsibility. Isa consistently comes to class on time, with all her materials, homework meticulously completed and ready to learn. She is so attentive in class that she is able to turn the lights up and down as needed for video clips before the teacher has a chance to ask her to do so. She frequently raises her hand to participate in class. Isa is a polite, friendly and cooperative student, and her teachers delight in the opportunity to have a student such as Isa in their classrooms.

Eighth grade

Jackson Cook had a fine representation at the math competition. Jack's competitive nature with his buddies has helped him push himself to be a high-achieving student. He constantly is working hard and pushing his classmates to work hard because they each want to be the best. Jack is kind and has a great sense of humor, and it has paid off in his academic success.

Abby Day is an incredibly hard-working and respectful young woman. She is a joy to have in class and a role model for fellow students. Her pleasant demeanor, helpful nature and work ethic are truly exceptional. She is kind to her classmates and teachers, striving to follow the rules of the school and classrooms. Abby is an exemplary student and person.

Tim Jahner is such a privilege to have in the classroom. It is without fail that Tim enters every class with a smile and an amazing attitude that will serve him well in the future. Along with a strong academic purpose, kindness toward others and respect for adults is commonplace for him. Don't let his quiet exterior fool you, when you least expect it he'll be the center of attention.

Jordan Willi
Jordan Willi is a reporter for the New Richmond News. Previously, he worked as a sports reporter at the Worthington Daily Globe in Worthington, Minnesota. He also interned at the Hudson Star Observer for two summers and contributed to the Bison Illustrated sports magazine at North Dakota State University.
