Simpson heads to state Geography Bee

New Richmond eighth grader River Simpson is on a roll.

After taking first place in the Middle School Geography Bee Jan. 4, Simpson took a written test, which moved him into position as a contender at the state level Geography Bee.

Simpson will travel to De Pere, Wis. with his family on April 4 to participate in the State Geography Bee, which will be held at St. Norbert College.

"I'm excited," Simpson said, "and a little nervous."

Simpson doesn't plan to ramp up his study sessions for the big event. He plans to stick with the strategy that has served him well thus far.

"I'll just study like I did before," Simpson said casually.

If Simpson wins the state championship he will advance to the nationals, which will be held in New York City in May.

New York City -- that's an easy one to find.
