New Richmond school bus schedule to change

On Feb. 2, students will pour out of New Richmond Middle School and New Richmond High School five minutes earlier thanks to a new bus schedule approved by the New Richmond School Board Monday night.

The change will allow for a new shuttling system where school buses will haul middle school and high school students to the elementary schools, said Morrie Veilleux, district administrator.

After arriving at the elementary schools, the middle school and high school students will exit the buses and board their regularly scheduled bus before continuing on the normal route.

The route change came at the suggestion of a consultant hired by the district and could shave as many as 20 minutes off afternoon bus rides.

It's too late in the year to adjust the morning bus route, Veilleux said.

That's something that could be evaluated for the 2009-10 school year.

The district hopes to use its new notification system to remind parents of the change as the date gets closer. The new system calls all school parents with a pre-recorded message.
