Master gardeners plan gathering
Master Gardeners will hear about conditions of agriculture and gardening in Afghanistan from Janet Jones, a SCVMGA member who spent a year there, at a Thursday, Sept. 22, meeting.
An Army Reserve officer responsible for public affairs, Jones worked as a photojournalist writing reports of our accomplishments in Afghanistan.
Her slide presentation will depict growing conditions and types of crops grown there, as well as the negative conditions -- such as land, soil and the weather -- people deal with while trying to grow food.
"Parts of the country are lush like the state of Washington, while the conditions where I was were dry, at high elevations with little or no irrigation possibilities as in eastern Montana," Jones said, "while still other sections are like Arizona."
The Master Gardener meeting will be held at the Unitarian Church, N8010 Highway 65, southeast of River Falls. The business meeting will start at 6:45 p.m. with the speaker at 7:15 p.m. The public is welcome.
