Somerset Schools Fine Arts Festival set for this Friday and Saturday
March is "Music in Our Schools Month." As part of the celebration, the Somerset School District will host its annual Fine Arts Festival this Friday and Saturday at the Somerset Middle School.
Friday's events start at 3 p.m. when the art gallery in the middle school commons will open for viewing. Art exhibits will be on display from 3-8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday. The art exhibits and demonstrations represent the work of students from the elementary school, middle school and high school.
The concert portion of the Fine Arts Festival will take place on Friday from 6-8:30 p.m. The concert bands and high school jazz ensemble will perform in the middle school gymnasium. Each of the choirs will be singing in the Burgundy Room. The evening will also include a sneak peek at what The Dynamics will perform for their upcoming District Show Choir festival entry.
General music classes will present hand bell demonstrations and versions of other music instruction approaches. Friday's performances will culminate with a mass choir, with more than 200 voices, performing in the gymnasium.
There is no admission charge for the Fine Arts Festival and the public is invited to join the art and music departments in celebrating their students' creative abilities.
The Fine Arts Festival also coincides with the middle school play, which has performances on Thursday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. This year's middle school play is "The Legend of Katastrophe Kate."
