Ceremony planned for graduates
The 2013 New Richmond High School Baccalaureate Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the New Richmond High School Auditorium.
The New Richmond High School Orchestra and Choir will be performing during the ceremony.
Common Ground, which is a group of local Youth Ministry Coordinators, organizes the New Richmond Baccalaureate ceremony.
Baccalaureate services originated at the University of Oxford in 1432 when each bachelor was required to deliver a sermon in Latin as part of his or her final academic requirements.
In the United States the term generally refers to a non-denominational ceremony held a few days before high school or college graduation. Unlike the massive commencement exercise held in stadiums or arenas, baccalaureate ceremonies offer a quieter, more intimate opportunity to pause and reflect on this rite of passage, hear faculty members offer advice to the graduation class and enjoy students' musical talents.
