Family Care provider chosen for St. Croix County

The Department of Health Services, Division of Long Term Care, has made an award to contract with Southwest Family Care Alliance as a Managed Care Organization (MCO) for the delivery of Family Care services in this area. The service region includes Family Care members in Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pierce, and St. Croix counties.

Southwest Family Care Alliance submitted the best proposal, according to DHS officials. The organization currently serves Family Care members in Crawford, Grant, Green, Iowa, Juneau, Lafayette, Richland and Sauk counties.

The completion of this competitive process permits the department to work with this MCO to ensure the provision of managed long-term care supports and services previously provided by Community Health Partnership.

SFCA replaced the current MCO for this region, Community Health Partners. CHP announced last month that it had lost its contract with the state to provide Family Care services in the region.

In recent months, care providers across the region have complained about CHP's dramatically varying reimbursement rates for clients. In some cases, significant reductions in rates have placed the services in jeopardy.

CHP will operate the area's Family Care services through the end of the year, then SFCA will take over.

Family Care provides care and services to people with disabilities and elderly adults who are frail.
