Gregory's takes in cats, kittens abandoned in Roberts

How can anyone not be moved by the good works of Gregory's and by these sweet kittens? (Contributed photographs)

Last week, Gregory's Gift of Hope was called into action when six adult cats and three tiny, three-week-old kittens were found crated and abandoned on property owned by St. Croix Animal Friends in Roberts.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office and local animal control officer were contacted by a private citizen who reported seeing animal crates on the St Croix Animal Friends property in Roberts and became concerned when no movement was observed and high daytime temperatures were forecast.

When calls placed by animal control to the property owners went unanswered, those at Gregory's Hope in New Richmond were called in to help.

Nine cats all at once is a big undertaking for any rescue facility regardless of the circumstances. But left with a grim alternative, those at Gregory's knew they had to step up and do the right thing. All nine cats were quickly assessed for any medical issues. The six adults were then housed with Gregory's current rescues, while the three kittens went into foster care, as they needed around-the-clock care and feedings.

The six adult cats have all been altered and brought up-to-date on vaccinations and are ready for adoption; the three kittens will be ready around Aug. 1.

Public visiting hours at Gregory's on-site facility are daily from 9 a.m.-noon and again from 5-8 p.m. The nine cats mentioned are only a few of the many that are ready and waiting for new, forever homes.

Gregory's Gift of Hope is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that receives no governmental, state or city/township funding; the facility relies solely on funding from adoptions and charitable donations from the general public.
