Hubmer changes name of salon
After purchasing Barb's Hairtique II from Barb Kramer in 1998, Carrie Hubmer has run the salon at 127 W. Second St. for almost 20 years. However, when Kramer sold the building on Second Street, Hubmer was forced to find a new location for her shop.
"So last November I put a plan in place just in case the building sold, which it did," Hubmer said. "So with the move to a new location, I decided to change the name because it still had Barb's name on there."
The name for Hubmer's new salon, which is located at 753 S. Knowles Avenue, is the Hair Lounge, a name that Hubmer said came from her two stylists.
"We just thought it was a fitting name based on how we were doing our decor at the new location," Hubmer said.
Everything about the Hair Lounge is the same as when it was Barb's Hairtique II — other than the salon downsizing to two chairs — including the services the salon offers, the phone number and the Facebook page, which can still be found under Barb's Hairtique II. Hubmer plans to create a new Facebook page in the near future.
"All of our clients have followed us to our new location and they are just as excited about the move as we are," Hubmer said.
Although the new location has been open since April 11, the outside is still a little conspicuous, with just a small name plate on the big Munson Plumbing sign outside and a small RedKen sign in the window.
"There is a new sign coming, we just haven't gotten it yet," Hubmer said. "We are the first spot in the building and we are really happy with the location. I like the fact that there is a parking lot here and that there isn't a step out front like we had at the last location. The visibility is really good here as well."
Construction on the new location started in January, after she decided to work with Andy Munson, who owns the building, to create a space all her own. Everything about the new salon is brand new, down to the insulation in the walls.
Hubmer has three stylists on staff, including herself, Sue Hanson — who has been with Hubmer for over 10 years — and Molly Kretovics. Kretovics worked for Hubmer as a receptionist when she was in high school before attending beauty school and coming back as a stylist. When she had children, Kretovics stepped back from doing hair, but has recently returned to the stylist's chair.
Hubmer said she will work Tuesday through Saturday; Hanson works Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Kretovics works Wednesday nights, Thursday and Saturdays.
