New Richmond Fire and Rescue receives forest fire protection grant
The New Richmond Fire and Rescue Department is pleased to announce that it has been chosen to receive funding from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Forest Fire Protection Grant Program. The grant funds will be used in the upcoming months towards the purchase of personal protective equipment valued at $18,426 that will be used when responding to wildland fire incidents. The equipment purchased with the funds from this grant will increase the safety of firefighters and their ability to protect the public. The grant will fund 50 percent of the project, with the local department covering the remaining 50 percent.
The Forest Fire Protection Grant Program is intended to expand the use of local fire departments to augment and strengthen the DNR's overall initial attack fire suppression capabilities on wildland fires. For more information about the grant, contact Fire Chief Jim VanderWyst at 715-243-0429, or go to the program website at " target="_blank">dnr.wi.gov/aid/forestfireprotection.html.
