Friday Memorial Library column: What we are grateful for
"What if today we were grateful for everything."—Charlie Brown (by Charles Schultz).
While it is always important to recognize the good things in your life, November traditionally becomes a time of appreciation for many. This month, we are reminded to slow down and take the time to reach out to those around us and say thank you for all you do for us.
It should come as no surprise that those of us at Friday Memorial Library are grateful for many things like books, curiosity, and lifelong learners to name just a few. We are thankful for the opportunity to provide our community with the resources they need. We are thankful for the local businesses and organizations who sponsor programs and events. We value the grant donors who allow us to continue to provide quality support, programs, and education for the city of New Richmond and the surrounding areas. We cherish our patrons who know the value of free and equal access for all and provide us with community support. We are honored to have wonderful volunteers and we are thankful for the Friends of the Library.
Our Friends of the Library organization recognizes the need for a strong library is greater than ever. The Friends is a volunteer group that makes it possible to increase our capacity to serve. Donations from the Friends of the Library have allowed us to purchase Lucky Day items which allow faster access to the newest books and DVDs. Their donations support our Hot Spots which allow patrons to borrow the internet. They provide the children's area with educational toys and activities as well as supporting the summer reading program performers and prizes. They have funded programs, equipment, and so many more things that allow us to better serve you.
Thursday, Nov. 16, kicks off the semi-annual Friends of the Library book sale. The sale runs through 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20. This sale of donated items and weeded materials is an important fundraiser for our friends group. It is organized and staffed by wonderful volunteers who know the value of a good book. We encourage everyone to stop by, browse the selection, and have a chat with a Friends member.
Today, we at Friday Memorial Library are grateful for our Friends and for you.
You can donate or become a member of the Friends. Please call the Library at 715-243-0431, or email the Friends at firstname.lastname@example.org.
