SCC introduces 30 new staff members for 2018-2019 school year

St. Croix Central School District will add 30 new staff members and teachers to its roster for the 2018-19 school year.

To help you identify the new faces out and about in the community, the following are brief profiles and photographs of each of the new St. Croix Central staff members who submitted their information.

Nic Been

Position: Director of teaching and learning

Previous work experience: Farmer, Spring Green, Wis.; assistant principal, River Falls; teacher, coach, athletic director, Barron, Wis.; teacher, athletic director, SCC

Education: UW-River Falls, undergraduate; Viterbo University, graduate; Sauk Prairie, Wis., high school.

Family: Kerrie, fifth grade teacher at SCC, Kasey (8), Daniel (5).

Lonnika Barbee

Position: Seventh grade special education teacher

Previous work experience: Ellsworth Community School District, middle school special education aide (two years)

Education: UW-River Falls, early childhood education, currently working on masters in special education at St. Mary's University.

Lynn Cadwell

Position: High school cook

Hobbies: I enjoy trying new recipes and going to local farmers markets. In my free time I like to go fishing with my brothers, travel and play bingo.

Kelly Derrick

Position: Special education paraprofessional

Previous work experience: Kindercare Learning Center in Woodbury, preschool teacher (2007-2013); Little Journeys Early Learning Center in Hammond, preschool teacher (2013-2017); Kindercare Learning Center in Hudson, float/infant teacher (2017-2018).

Education: Graduated from SCC; child development associated credentials from Ellis of N.Y.I.T., special education paraprofessional license.

Family: Husband, Micah; and three cats. Live in Woodville.

Lean Feyereisen

Position: 4K teacher at Trinity, Kid's CARE grades 2-6 teacher

Previous work experience: Five years of teaching, mental health crisis worker. Stay at home mom, Kid's CARE.

Education: Graduated from St. Mary's University

Family: Originally from St. Paul. Moved to Hammond in 2003. I have triplet 11 year-old-boys, Tanner, Parker and Cole, who are in sixth grade at the middle school.

Lyndia Hanson

Position: Sixth grade teacher at the middle school

Previous work experience: Hudson Middle School, sixth grade language arts teacher.

Education: Bachelor of elementary/middle level education; Masters of Technical and Professional Communications.

Family: Husband, Trevor; three children: Evelyn, Elsie and Gunnar.

Hobbies: I enjoy family time, reading, camping and being at our cabin.

Ben Helmrick

Position: Middle school band director

Previous work experience: I have taught grades 5-8 band at Silver Lake Intermediate School in Oconomowoc, Wis. for the past three years.

Education: I graduated from River Falls High School in 2010, attended UW-Stevens Point for my degree in instrumental music education and completed my student teaching at Baldwin-Woodville.

Family: My parents, brother and sister-in-law all live in River Falls.

Ken Hoffmyier

Position: Housekeeper

Previous work experience: Retired from Andersen Windows after 31 years in 2006.

Education: BS, elementary ed; MS, supervision of instruction from UW-River Falls.

Family: Wife, Mary; three children: Samantha, Brian and Laura; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hobbies: I love to fish and travel.

Russ Johnson

Position: Bus driver

Education: SCC graduate 1985

Family: Wife, Monica, daughters Stasi and Calleigh

Duane Jourdeans

Position: High school English teacher

Previous work experience: Spring Valley High School (1995-2003) English teacher, football and basketball coach; Baldwin-Woodville High School English teacher and coach.

Education: SCC High School, UW-River Falls for BS in English ed. and coaching, St. Mary's University MA in education, UW-River Falls certification in school counseling.

Family: Wife, Heather teacher at SCC, two sons: Zak (11th grade) and Trey (seventh) at SCC.

Mitch Klimek

Position: High school science teacher

Previous work experience: I have been living in Alma Center, Wis., and teaching biology and geology at Lincoln Jr./Sr. High School for the last six years. During this time, I have coached track and football, announced at basketball games and taught summer school.

Education: I went to high school in Chisago Lakes, Minn., and I attended college at UW-River Falls to earn a broad field science degree.

Family: I have been married to my wife, Brittany, for four years. We have two children, Ethan (3) and Carter (1).

Hobbies: We love playing outside, watching movies and visiting extended family.

Brianna McGee

Position: High school math teacher

Previous work experience: RTI Interventionist at Osceola High School for four years, 6-12 math teacher at Frederic for one year.

Education: Graduated from Glenwood City High School, earned two associate degrees from WITC-New Richmond, earned bachelors for math education from Western Governors University in May 2017.

Family: Married to husband Cody for seven years.

Shelbi McGuire

Position: Fourth grade special education teacher

Previous work experience: Taught K-3 special education last year in Castle Rock, Colorado.

Education: Went to school at UW-Eau Claire, double-majoring in special education and elementary education.

Family: My mother works at a credit union and my father is an elementary principal. My brother also attends UW-Eau Claire.

Isaac Neumann

Position: First grade teacher

Previous work experience: Frederic Elementary, first grade teacher (2017-2018)

Education: Four-year degree from UW-River Falls, majoring in elementary education and minoring in early childhood

Family: Klancy Neumann, mother; Ted Neumann, father; Andrew and Justin Neumann, brothers.

Hobbies: I will also be coaching football at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls as the linebackers coach.

Courtney Schaaf

Position: 4K teacher

Education: College at UW-Stout

Family: Youngest of five and have a mom, dad and two dogs.

Cari Schlosser

Position: Third grade special education teacher

Previous work experience: Barron Area School District, third grade and K-12 curriculum coordinator

Education: Undergrad in early childhood education and special education from UW-Stout, Masters in curriculum and instruction from Arkansas State University, National Board Certified Teacher.

Hobbies: I enjoy traveling, the outdoors and photography. Coached dance for 11 years to ages K-12.

Adam Sheldon

Position: High school special education cross-categorical teacher

Previous work experience: 2014-2018, Richland Center High School; 2013-2014, Slinger Middle School, 2012-2013; long-term substitute at DeForest High School/Middle School; long-term substitute at Milton High School

Education: 2009-2012, Masters degree in special education cross-categorical; 2004-2007, bachelors degree in sociology with an emphasis in criminal justice.

Family: Parents, Art and Nancy (both deceased); older sisters Margaret and Melanie

Hobbies: Outside of school, I enjoy weight training and CrossFit. I am also an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

Arianna Wirebaugh

Position: German teacher (high school/middle school)

Previous work experience: I student taught for a semester in the School District of La Crosse, both at the high school and middle school. After I graduated, I was a substitute teacher before accepting a full-time teacher assistant position with the Emotional Behavioral Disorder program at one of the elementary schools in La Crosse.

Education: I went to UW-La Crosse for my degree in German Education. I graduated in the spring of 2017.

Family: I grew up in Oak Creek, Wis., which is 15 minutes outside of Milwaukee. I then moved to La Crosse for college. My mom lives in Racine, Wis., and my dad lives in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

Taylor Woller

Position: Seventh grade science

Previous work experience: Animal caretaker at Fawn Doe Rosa (2009-2015), middle school baseball coach SCF (2013 to present), zip guide at Trollhaugen (2013-2015).

Education: K-12 at St. Croix Falls. College at UW-River Falls majoring in elementary education with a minor in general science.

Family: Two sisters, one older and one younger, and my parents.

Hobbies: I love science, karaoke, dancing, making people smile, adrenaline junkie, action sports, the outdoors and orange freezes.

Emily Wech

Position: Spanish teacher

Previous work experience: Spanish teacher at Stanley-Boyd School District for two years.

Education: Went to UW-Platteville for three years, studied at the University of Puerto Rico - Humacao, and two years at UW-Eau Claire.

Family: I have two rabbits and a goldendoodle

Jenna Scheithauer

Position: School psychologist

Previous work experience: Special education teacher in Augusta, Wis., fall 2010-spring 2017.

Education: A.S. UW-Marshfield/Wood County; BS UW-Eau Claire, MS UW-Stout.

Family: Married to Nathan Scheithauer, two cats: Abra and Sophie

Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I like to make cards and knit.

Ryan Wood

Position: High school business IT teacher

Previous work experience: Sales and marketing at Sports Engine in Minneapolis and ESPN Milwaukee.

Education: Unity High School and UW-Green Bay graduate.

Family: Mom and dad, Judy and Jerry. Sister, Amy. Nieces: Natalie, Sophie and Emilie. Dog, Jordy.

Zac Young

Position: Housekeeping

Previous work experience: Janitor at the Goodwill in Hudson for the last couple years.

Education: High school graduate from Blaine, Minn.

Family: Girlfriend, Bianca; stepson Tanner (13) and daughter Isabella (4). My sister Jenny Cicha is a teacher at SCC

Luanne O'Connell

Position: Cook

Previous work experience: Sub at SCC 2018, full-time 2018 at Rocky Branch in River Falls kitchen help, Anderson Corp. 1978-2016.

Education: Completed 12th grade

Family: Married to Greg. No children

Lisa Shields

Position: School nurse, elementary

Previous work experience: I've been in the nursing field since the age of 16 when I became a CNA.

Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing 1998. Master's degree in nursing in 2002. Degree in nursing in 2011

Family: Husband, Michael; daughter, Ellie (ninth grade); son, Alex (sixth), two cats.

Hobbies: I love the outdoors, traveling, spending time with friends and family and baking cookies.

Autumn Voigt

Position: Virtual school counselor

Education: BS in psychology and art from UW-River Falls. MS in school counseling, UW-Stout.

Family: From Hudson, two little brothers, mom and dad, dog, cats, chameleon and frog.

Hobbies: I like to draw, paint, ski, kayak, hike and travel in my free time.

Nancy Rogers

Position: DHH teacher

Previous work experience: Mesa Public Schools, Mesa, Ariz., DHH teacher for 30 years. CESA DHH teacher, two years.

Education: BS deaf education UW-Milwaukee, MA Emphasis middle school education, University of Arizona

Family: Husband, Will

Hobbies: Traveling, reading, crocheting and being with family.

Jennifer Sauve

Position: Kindergarten teacher

Previous work experience: Taught two years in Mesa, Arizona, first and third grade; taught six years in Shell Lake, third, fourth and kindergarten; licensed in home daycare. Kids Care Director at SCC since December 2016.

Education: Elementary education and early childhood from UW-La Crosse.

Family: Tom Sauve (high school social studies teacher), Allison (fourth grade), Emma (second), Isabelle (4K) and Jordan (22 months)

Hobbies: Running, hiking, walking, being active and spending time with family and friends.

Alex Nilssen

Position: Elementary special education teacher

Previous work experience: Behavioral therapist for kids with autism.

Education: Bachelors from UW-River Falls in psychology, early childhood special edu./cross-categorical licenses from Educate Wisconsin and St. Mary's University.

Family: Husband, Mike; dogs, Hazel and Riley

Hobbies: Spending time with friends and family, attempting to cook and bake.

Aliex Friend

Position: Long-term substitute for Amanda Langman (seventh grade language arts)

Previous work experience: Fourth grade students teaching placement in Somerset; eighth grade student teaching placement at SCC; substitute teaching Somerset, Hudson and SCC districts

Education: Bachelor of Science from UW-Eau Claire in middle childhood-early adolescence education (1-8)

Hobbies: Spending time with family and friends, hiking/being outdoors and photography.

Jordan Willi
Jordan Willi is a reporter for the New Richmond News. Previously, he worked as a sports reporter at the Worthington Daily Globe in Worthington, Minnesota. He also interned at the Hudson Star Observer for two summers and contributed to the Bison Illustrated sports magazine at North Dakota State University.
