Gas leak closes Arch Avenue, Hughes Street in New Richmond

New Richmond fire and police departments were on scene quickly for a gas leak that occurred at the junior of North Arch Avenue and East Hughes Street on Wednesday morning in New Richmond.

A gas leak at the junction of North Arch Avenue and East Hughes Street Wednesday morning has blocked access to both those streets, causing residents to be evacuated.

The City of New Richmond was contacted at approximately 8:30 a.m., with the New Richmond Fire Department responding. The gas leak is located a block away from the city fire hall.

XCEL Energy was on the scene of the gas leak by 8:50 a.m., according to the City of New Richmond Facebook page. It was estimated that it would be at least two hours from the original break before residents would be able to return to their homes.
