UW board of regents would have members from all parts of the state under Assembly bill
The University of Wisconsin's governing body would have members from all parts of the state under a bill endorsed by an Assembly committee Wednesday.
The colleges' panel voted 8-4 for a bill that makes the Board of Regents have at least one member from each of seven geographic areas in the state.
Rep. Jeff Smith, D-Eau Claire, wrote the bill.
He said his area has not had a regent for over 30 years, except for student members.
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student Aaron Wingad is on the panel. There's a similar bill in the Senate, and it was recently endorsed by its higher education committee.
