Michael J. Otto, 59

Michael John "Mike" Otto 59, passed away Feb. 5, at his home in Brooklyn Center, Minn., with his family by his side.

Michael was born Nov. 19, 1957, to Francis Bernard Otto and Anna Christine (Beestman) Otto in New Richmond, Wis. He attended St. Mary's School till 6th grade and then New Richmond Public School graduating in the Class of 1977. After graduation he went into the U.S. Army serving his country for 18 months at Fort Lewis Washington and two years in Germany. When he arrived back he began school at Dunwoody Institute for Heating/Air Condition Repair. For the past 22 years Mike was employed at HCMC in the Maintenance department where he worked until Jan. 23, 2017.

On Oct. 24, 1987, Mike married Lita Trudy Horgan to this marriage they raised two children, John and Jeff. Making their home in NE Minneapolis, Mike and Lita divorced in 2003 and Mike moved to Brooklyn Center. Mike's passion for woodworking was known to everyone who knew him. Making stuff for many of his family and friends, sharing his joy with his sons and grandchildren.

In July 2011, Mike found out he had Stage Four renal cancer, after the removal of one kidney, it was discovered it had spread to his lung. Over the past 5 years, his courageous battle through treatment and procedures was a testament to his faith in God and love of his family.

Mike leaves to celebrate his life his sons, John Douglas Otto, Mounds View, Minn., and Jeffrey Michael Otto, NE Minneapolis; his grandchildren the pride of his life, John, Lilly, and George Otto; his mother, Anna Otto of New Richmond; brothers, Jim (Natalie) Otto, Balsam Lake, Wis., and Mark (Kim) Otto, New Richmond; sisters, Patricia Otto, Mary Otto, New Richmond, Virginia (Brian) Lundin, Delano, Minn., Joan (Ted) Sempf, Sun Prairie, Wis.; the mother of his children, Lita Otto, NE Minneapolis; stepmother, Ada-Belle Otto, New Richmond; stepsisters, Cheri (Mike) Dancha, Lakewood Ranch, Fla., Jeannie (Mark) Edwards, Thousand Oaks, Calif., Roberta (Dan), Chisago Lakes, Minn.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Francis Otto; his grandparents, Warner and Margret Otto, and Herman and Mary Beestman.

Mass of Christian Burial for Michael John Otto will be Feb. 17, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, So. Washington Ave., New Richmond, WI, with Mass at 12 p.m. by Fr. John Anderson and Fr. Thomas Thompson. Family and Friends may gather at the church 90 minutes prior to the Service. Interment with full military honors will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery at a later time. The family invites the guests to join in a lunch and fellowship following the service.
