Letter: Salvation Army effort raises $95,000

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers, civic groups and businesses that worked so hard to make our Red Kettle Campaign a success. With your help we were able to raise the needed funds to help our friends and neighbors in time of need.

The Salvation Army of St. Croix County provides emergency assistance for rent, utilities, transportation, dental and medication. Because of your hard work help has been provided to over 500 families in our area.

We also provide milk coupons to all food pantries in our county. Milk coupons provide one gallon of milk to individuals and families who seek assistance at local food pantries.

We also operate three facilities in our service area:

• Grace Place shelter located in Somerset provides emergency shelter for 21 individuals or seven families.

• Faith House located in New Richmond provides shelter for one family.

• House of Blessings located in Osceola also provides shelter for one family.

Eighty percent of individuals who seek our help have one person in the family working. Due to low paying jobs and high housing costs in our area these families just don't make enough money to get by. The Salvation Army's objective is to help the whole person, which includes physical and spiritual needs.

The Red Kettle campaign provides needed funds to help many of the residence in our area. The final donation total was $95,000.

Through the efforts of so many hard working volunteers we are able to provide the needed services to help those less fortunate in our community. The time you took out of your busy holiday schedule will make a difference in the lives of so many.

Thanks again to the St. Croix County residence that worked so hard to make this campaign a success. A special thank-you goes to Helen McCombie who rang for 30 hours straight to raise $27,000.
