Milwaukee Marquette takes summer baseball title
Milwaukee Marquette has won its second state high school summer baseball title in three years.
The Hilltoppers scored 10 runs in the seventh inning Thursday to beat Kettle Moraine 12-1 in the championship game in Stevens Point.
The game was tied until the sixth inning, when a sacrifice fly by Matt Krueger put Marquette in front for good. Marquette averaged almost 9.5 runs in its final seven contests.
They ended the year 27-11, while Kettle Moraine closed out its summer at 25-10.
Marquette advanced in Thursday's semi-finals by eliminating Oak Creek 8-3. Kettle Moraine out-slugged Brown Deer 13-12 in eight innings of their semi.
