New Richmond wrestlers still going at state meet

MADISON - New Richmond's Shane Blackman and Abram Anderson still get a chance to place in the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament as they compete in the consolation round Friday morning at the Kohl Center.

Both wrestlers lost their first round matches Thursday but both got a chance to go through the consolation round as the wrestlers they lost two moved on to the semifinals.

Shane Blackman will wrestle Steve Cygan of Green Bay Preble/East, a junior with a 41-9 record at 113 pounds while Anderson goes against Joe Nelson of Stoughton, a freshman with a 40-9 mark at 132.

Both wrestlers have to win two matches today to place in the state meet. If they both win their morning matches they will wrestle again at 1:15 p.m. this afternoon in the consolation round semifinals.
