Blackman injured, defeated in quarterfinals

MADISON - New Richmond's Shane Blackman was injured in a takedown attempt by Stoughton's Collin Kraus. The end result was a quarterfinal loss by the Tiger wrestler at the WIAA State Tournament late Thursday afternoon.

The injury came at the end of the second period with the score tied 2-2. The match was stopped for several minutes while Blackman was attended to by trainers.

Blackman led the match 2-1 after getting a takedown near the edge of mat early in the second period. Kraus had an escape which tied the score and then went for the takedown attempt which injured Blackman.

Blackman eventually got to his feet gutted out the third period. He was in the down position and was kept down on the mat by Krause. He scored a two-point nearfall to break the tie and win the match 4-2.

Blackman will wrestle in the consolation round, if he's able to, tomorrow morning staring at 10 a.m.
