Plan to be part of annual Thanksgiving Run

Kris Nelson and Laurie Tarman lead runners through the Nature Center at last year's Thanksgiving Day Run. More than 50 runners participated at this annual event organized by the New Richmond Running Club.

Before you sit down for that big Thanksgiving dinner, burn some calories with the New Richmond Running Club at its annual Thanksgiving Day Run.

The low-key fun starts at the First National Community Bank parking lot at 8 a.m. and proceeds along city streets and pathways. The route varies from year to year, but it is always long enough to warrant an extra ‘guilt-free’ piece of pie at your Thanksgiving dinner.

Although the run is free, participants are encouraged to bring a food item that can be donated to New Richmond’s Five Loaves Food Shelf. Food items in great demand are dried fruit, applesauce cups, whole grain bread, whole grain cereal, peanut butter, instant oatmeal, canned tuna and salmon, rice, pasta, canned vegetables, paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste and tooth brushes. Cash donations can be made as well.

Questions regarding the run or food donations can be directed to Jim Heebink at 715-246-5137.
