St. Croix Central's Emma Landry qualifies for WIAA state golf tournament
St. Croix Central senior Emma Landry has taken her golf skills to another level.
Landry qualified for the WIAA Division 2 state championships by taking second place Tuesday in the WIAA Division 2 Baldwin-Woodville sectional tournament played at Pheasant Hills Golf Course outside Hammond.
Landry shot an 84 to tie Spooner's Dani DeWitt for second place at the sectional meet. Hayward freshman Gabby Tremblay shot an 81 to earn sectional medalist honors.
Landry put herself in position to advance to state with a torrid start in Tuesday's meet. She was the leader after the front nine, where she shot a 39. The WIAA state tournament will be played next Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
St. Croix Central was also competing as a team at the sectional meet. The Panthers placed sixth in the team competition with a team score of 406. Audra Scott shot 99, Carolyn Morris 105, Hailey Schultz 118 and Sarah Phillips 128.
Somerset had two seniors playing as individuals in the sectional meet and they both played well. Ally Wittstock shot a 94, including matching a career-best with a 43 on the front nine. Cally Meixner finished with a 107.
New Richmond had two individuals play in the Division 1 sectional tournament in Tomah on Monday and they both played outstanding rounds. Tiger junior Maddie McCann shot an 85, missing qualifying for state by one stroke. Tiger freshman Maggie Veenendall was also in the hunt for a spot in the state tournament field, finishing with an 87.
